The Smeg company name comes from the Guastallia region of Italy.

The name Smeg stands for ’Smalterie Metallurgiche, Emiliane, Guastallia’ which is a metal enamelling factory in Emilia, Italy.

Smeg has built itself a name for high build quality by using exceptional quality components and having a system of rigorous testing at every point of production.

It takes up to (and sometime over) two years of research, development and testing before Smeg releases a new product onto the market, and every appliance is tested at the factory for over 15 years of use.
